The inaugural Langtry Manor Business Woman of the Year Awards took place at the Langtry Manor with a black tie dinner on Thursday 13th May 2010.

The event was a sell out success with an electric atmosphere, as well as tears, laughter and much applause for all the deserving winners as well as the runners up on the shortlist.

Tara Howard said of the awards, “It’s hard to believe that it was less than seven months ago that Jackie Phillipson from PPR and I chatted over the idea of honouring high achieving women in business. My team and I are absolutely honoured to host the awards – with such a monumental first awards ceremony. From this little acorn of an idea much has already been achieved and talk has already started about a 2011 awards.”

Two leading ladies in business who sadly passed away earlier this year, the late Stephanie Penrose from ISS TV and the late Sarah Howells from The Passionate PA were both honoured for contribution to business in the Dorset community. Stephanie was honoured by Jackie Phillipson, PPR Media Solutions – who presented the PR Initiative Award in her honour to Jacqui Cleaver and Sunny Moran of ‘New You Boot Camp’ and Sarah by Frances Miles and Tracey Wood from The Women’s Network Club who presented the Special Woman Award to Nikila Newman of The Infectious Academy.

Whilst the business women themselves may not have entered personally a large number of entries were sent in on their behalf. When it came to votes for the entries the community really entered into the voting spirit. Jackie Phillipson from PPR said, “The voting process was without a doubt a massive success, The Daily Echo received 10,000 votes for The Business Mum of the Year and Heart received 1800 votes for the Employer of the Year – confirming this as the most votes ever received from a competition since they opened in the area.

Greendale Construction restores Durlston Castle: Dorset county Council has appointed Greendale Construction as the main building contractor for the £5.5 million restoration of Grade II-listed Durlston Castle, the centrepiece of Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve near Swanage. The renovation will bring the Victorian castle back to use as a world-class visitor centre.

Halo Therapies: Halo Therapies, owned by Andrea Lindsay has appointed PPR for support with marketing and PR. Already secured are regional radio and magazine coverage, a national newspaper interview, a national and international radio interview. Andrea will also be providing a regular monthly radio slot with an international radio station.

New staff appointments at PPR: Jeni Crane and Diana Saxby have joined the PPR workforce as PR and marketing executives. Jeni previously worked for Hudson Cooper and Diana for Lester Aldridge and Canford School. Both Jeni and Diana are assisting Jackie Phillipson with the PPR portfolio, the media and clients, as well as business growth and development.

Physicool: PPR set up a partnership between clients Physicool and The Outward Bound Trust with the Virgin Marathon. Steps singer Lee Latchford Evans ran to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust and Physicool supported them by donating £1 for every Physicool product sold linked to the Virgin Marathon.

The Outward Bound Trust: The Trust launched its latest initiative – ‘Generations’ – a project reaching out to all those who have ever participated in an Outward Bound course since 1941. The Trust plans to unite over 1 million former Outward ‘Bounders’ who have experienced the life-changing Outward Bound courses over the last 68 years.

Greendale Construction: Another successful year of results. The directors believe the strength of the business lies in the fact that the company works across many sectors. Greendale report a marked increase in acquisitions and opportunities to tender, not to mention raising their profile, since PPR started to support them with PR and marketing 4 years ago.

Castle of Mey: The Castle of Mey opens its doors for the first time in 2010 at Easter with their famous Easter egg hunt! The Trustees engaged PPR to help raise awareness for the Castle and Gardens. Last year’s promotions increased visitors by almost 4,000 to 29,000 and Alan Titchmarsh says The Gardens are his favourite royal gardens.

Health Clinic relaunch: PPR were appointed to relaunch a Dorset based health clinic to the B2B and B2C markets resulting in A successful Open Day celebrating 28 years in business.

PPR win luxury property PR contract: PPR assist with the marketing and promotion of luxurious properties in Sandbanks. National PR coverage with Celebrities at the properties.
